Dear friends! Our team wishes everyone a Happy New Year. 2019 was full of worries and painstaking work
behind the scenes of the site. We renewed the filling with might and main, fixed the problems, built a
new foundation — invisible, like our hero, the Phantom of the Opera. We wish you all the very best, kind,
joyful and magical in the coming year! Remember your friends and relatives, take care of them and do not
forget about yourself! Happy New Year!
2019 is gradually coming to an end ... For technical reasons, this year we could not hold a New Year Quiz,
but another quiz, the TV show "Ñâîÿ èãðà" (Russian replica of Jeopardy!) drew attention to
the Phantom of the Opera fans just two days ago. Since this was not the first time, we decided to
devote a separate page to it, where you can
find out when and how many times the players answered questions related to the Phantom of the Opera.
When winter is approaching, everyone probably wants to wrap himself in a blanket, pour hot tea or cocoa
with marshmallows, put a purring cat on his knees, stretch his legs to the burning fireplace and read his
favorite book. Therefore, today we will talk with you about ancient French literature in general and
about the Gaston Leroux’s works in particular.
Unfortunately, despite the writer's fiery love for Russia, Russian publishers for a long time did not
reciprocate. Over a century, only 11 of his novels and 4 plays have been translated into Russian,
and not all of them can be found in the public domain now. However, recently we have seen a revival
of interest in Gothic literature, and therefore the Gaston Leroux’s works are increasingly being
translated into Russian. Only in 2019 thanks to the private online publisher Salamandra P.V.V.
in the Polaris: Travel, Adventure, Science Fiction series several Gaston Leroux’s works
were published: novels L'Épouse du Soleil and L'Homme qui revient de loin,
as well as stories: La Hâche d'or, L'Homme qui a vu le diable and Le dîner
des bustes. The most pleasant thing is that all e-books of Salamandra P.V.V. distributed
online for free. You can find out more details on our page
Leroux’s books translated into Russian.
But that is not all. In 2016, compiling a complete bibliography
of the writer for our site, we drew attention to a strange fact: the story Wax Museum,
which was present in many English-language collections of short stories by Leroux, did not appear in any
French bibliographic list. The investigation made it possible to establish that the authorship of the
story did not belong to Gaston Leroux, but to the playwright André de Lorde, “Prince of Terror”,
who wrote plays for the Paris horror theater Grand Guignol. You can find out more details about our
investigation, as well as read the translation of the story into Russian for the first time on a
Today is a very special day for us, the birthday of The Phantom of the Opera novel!
And it's not just another birthday, it's an anniversary!
Exactly 110 years ago, on September 23, 1909, the newspaper
Le Gaulois began publishing chapters by
Gaston Leroux's novel Le Fantôme de l'Opéra in the feuilleton section.
And today, celebrating the anniversary of our beloved novel, we have prepared for you an overview of one very
interesting publication named Popular about popular literature.
Gaston Leroux and mass reading in France during ‘la belle époque’.
This is the first book in Russian about Gaston Leroux and his work. This is what
makes her interesting. And what the author of the book writes about the Phantom of the Opera and if he knows
about our site, you will find out by looking at a special page. Happy holiday!
For quite some time now, we have not pleased you with the latest news and information from the Phantom of
the Opera world, and it is time to fix it. Today we will continue to acquaint you with the work of talented
Russian authors who have dedicated their work to our dear Phantom.
The next author we want to introduce is Alyona Ivanova, a surprisingly multifaceted
and versatile person whose work extends to many areas. Alyona is a professional linguist, actress and singer.
She completed a composition training course, writes poetry and prose, music and songs, scripts for performances,
conducts research and writes popular science articles, translates from foreign languages (English, German),
creates unique Origami miniatures, sews outfits for dolls, creates collages and video clips, projects of
sculptural compositions, draws, engages in directing ... in general, is one of the most striking examples
of the saying "a talented person is talented everywhere".
We collected all the basic information about this amazing author on
her personal page. Following the link, you will find:
— the story "Window of Fate";
— poems "The Phantom Rose" and "Music of the Heart", as well as humorous pies;
— Origami miniatures;
— collages and video clips;
— translations, reviews and articles on the Phantom of the Opera;
— doll outfit design and much more.
The site administration also expresses its great gratitude to Alyona for the huge number of sent thematic materials, which will find their place on the pages of our site in the near future.
We regret to inform you that Harold Prince, a theater producer and director,
who gained fame thanks to the production of many famous Broadway musicals of the second half
of the 20th century, died at the age of 91 yesterday.
He won 21 Tony awards, which at that time was an absolute record. Prince staged Broadway
performances such as Evita, Sweeney Todd, Cabaret, and of course The Phantom of the Opera.
According to his publicist Rick Miramontes, the director died after a short illness in Icelandic Reykjavik.
Dear friends, we congratulate you on Valentine's Day!
We wish you to find your soul mate as soon as possible, and those who have already found
it, we wish peace, harmony and understanding!
Over the years, we have developed a peculiar tradition of giving this day a Mature update,
that is, pages for adults only. However, this year we decided to step back from tradition ...
or form a new one, time will tell.
Probably not all of you know, but right now, these days, the first winter international
sports games Children of Asia are taking place on Sakhalin (Russia), and one of the
site administrators succumbed to the atmosphere reigning around, turning to sports and a
healthy lifestyle. And what kind of sport can be called the most romantic? Surely you will
agree with me, this is figure skating.
Today we have completely updated the page dedicated to the competitions of the
International Skating Union (ISU).
We fixed all the broken videos, corrected errors and inaccuracies in the information, and also
added a lot of interesting numbers put on the music of Phantom of the Opera by Andrew
Lloyd Webber and Phantom of the Opera on Ice by Roberto Danova. Surely you will be
surprised to find out how many skaters (both couples and singles) turn to the image of the
Phantom of the Opera and his beloved Christine. And here are the names of those who appeared
on our page for the first time:
— Tarah Kayne and Daniel O'Shea (USA);
— Kanako Murakami (Japan);
— Gracie Elizabeth Gold (USA);
— Maria Vygalova and Egor Zakroev (Russia);
— Lorraine McNamara and Quinn Carpenter (USA);
— Rebeka Kim and Kirill Minov (South Korea);
— Miriam Ziegler and Severin Kiefer (Austria);
— Caitlin Yankowskas and Hamish Gaman (Great Britain);
— Yuzuru Hanyu (Japan);
— Takahito Mura (Japan);
— Michael Christian Martinez (Philippines);
— Lee June-Hyoung (South Korea);
— Akiko Suzuki (Japan);
— Ekaterina Ryazanova and Ilya Tkachenko (Russia);
— Caydee Denney and John Coughlin (USA);
— Armen Agaian (Georgia);
— Kim Lucine (Monaco).
On the page you will find videos of each program, as well as individual pages with screenshots and excerpts from the interview. If you suddenly know of any other skaters performances at the competitions, which are not on our page, write to us by mail, in the guest room or in the social networks.
Dear friends! Today is the next birthday of our site. We are pleased to be with you for the second decade.
We are pleased to travel with you around the world of the Phantom of the Opera, where something unexpected will
turn out to be behind a new turn. For example, like one of the episodes of the American animated series
The Powerpuff Girls. All the details, as well as screenshots are waiting for you on a
And the important news! In the near future we will begin technical work to improve the site, update its appearance
and outdated information. Therefore, we ask you to show a little patience ... and keep your hand at the level of your eyes!
We congratulate all those who celebrate Christmas today with this bright and joyful holiday! And according
to the good old tradition, we present a page from the Beauty
and the Beast section. This time you meet with a modified fairy tale by Sergei Aksakov, the
musical on ice The Scarlet Flower. It
was produced by the famous Russian figure skater Tatyana Navka. She played a major role.
On a page you will find information about the show itself, including a list of skaters and vocalists, as well
as a lot about the plot with a complete synopsis and photos.
